A recent report from Brazil has been making waves online, revealing that a 65-year-old mayor has tied the knot with a 16-year-old beauty queen who is still attending high school. Hissam Hussein Dehaini, the mayor of Araucaria in Paraná state, allegedly married Kauane Rode Camargo, who came second in the Miss Araucária contest's teen category last year.
It has been reported that the new bride attends high school at a civic-military school in the city, which her now-husband oversees. The couple reportedly met at a social event in the city, and after their wedding, Kauane's mother, Marilene Rode, was promoted to Secretary of Culture of Araucária.
Despite the Brazilian Civil Code permitting marriage between a man and woman aged 16 with authorization from both parents or legal representatives, reports indicate that over 2.2 million minors are married in Brazil. This practice has been linked to the perpetuation of child marriage, which can lead to a life of "domestic service, lack of professional training, exclusion from the labor market, school dropout, and restriction of mobility and freedom," according to prosecutor Flávia Gomes Cordeiro.
The local council reportedly refused to comment on the matter, stating that it is a personal affair. However, reports suggest that some have viewed the union of Kauane and Hissam as an example of true love and overcoming prejudices. While opinions may be divided on this issue, one thing is certain - it has certainly caught the attention of people worldwide.
The age difference is a major turnoff. One would have thought that occurrences such as this only happen in African societies. I do not think it's a case of true love. What's your thought on this?
